Meet Moud Kasirivu
|
Moud Kasirivu Nakibinge, formerly of the Children of Uganda, was born in Nangabo sub-county Wakiso district in Uganda, East Africa. When Moud was fifteen years old, his mother passed away, leaving him with his younger brother and sister to support. Due to the dire economic situation caused by his mother’s demise, Moud and his siblings went to live at the Daughters of Charity Orphanage. At the orphanage, Moud discovered his love for art and painting. Through the support of his sponsors at the orphanage, Moud started developing his natural artistic talent which has continued to blossom. Despite a lack of formal training in art, Moud has received many awards and commissions. He was recently named Uganda’s Most Talented Youth Artist and was featured in Kampala’s travel magazine. Moud’s talent is so extraordinary that not only do people fly to Uganda to purchase his paintings, but he is frequently commissioned by five star hotels and restaurants to paint murals and supply paintings for the decor. The majority of Moud’s paintings reflect the culture and folklore of the people of Uganda. His oil and acrylic paintings on canvas maintain a theme of brotherhood and make frequent use of his favorite colors of orange and blue. Moud’s ideas stem from his community, life, and folklore of his people. In addition to painting on canvas, Moud also paints on bark cloth and t-shirts. He has experimented with making wood carvings and using other media to enhance his paintings. Copper wire, hand carved bone beading, and fabrics are used to provide three dimensional qualities to his artwork. Not only is Moud an outstanding artist, he also has a heart for giving back to the community. Moud frequently provides free lessons to orphans and children of poverty, in addition to painting murals on the walls of orphanages. To give back to those who supported Moud, a portion of the proceeds generated from his paintings are given to the Children of Uganda. On June 21, 2008, Moud has been invited to be the guest speaker and one of the featured artists at the Houston RoseGarden Center’s Art Walk and Exhibit in the Museum District in Houston, Texas. During his stay in Houston, Moud has volunteered his time for public speaking and interviews for the media. His spare time will also be spent on a mural he will paint at Epiphany Lutheran Church and School in Jersey Village. Other speaking engagements have been scheduled in Houston, Dallas, and Kansas while Moud is in the United States. In addition to his charity work and speaking engagements in the United States, Moud Kasirivu’s paintings will be on exhibit at EB5 Art Gallery in Spring, Texas, throughout the month of July 2008.
